This is a new program offered by Johan Pot.
The goal of this program is the research of relationships between plants.
This research
is based on a set of morphological characters.
Installation :
This program does not need any installation !
- Unzip the Wden.zip file that you have downloaded.
- Just click on WD.exe to run the program
Instructions
On the left of the screen you will see a list of 404 field numbers/names.
- Select one plant in this list and you automatically obtain on the right a list of
plants classified in order of similarity rate compared with the reference plant (let's
call it the "result list").
- You can see the set of morphological characters used in the program below those two
lists.
You can possibly change the weighting of one or several of those characters
for a specific search by changing the number in front of this character. The more
the number is high, the more the character is weighted. - On the right of the button « Select » you can enter a rate of similarity. Then click
on the button “Select” or press ENTER and the plants with the rate of similarity
you have chosen are automatically selected.
Of course, you can also select all the
plants you need just by clicking on it. - Click on the buttons « Cladogram star » or « Cladogram tree » and a cladogram is
calculated and displayed.
- On the the right of the button "Cladogram star" you can enter a rate : this is a
scale to fit the cladogram to your screen.
- After a field number was selected in the left list, by clicking on the “map” button,
all records in the “result list” will be automatically submitted to the same procedure.
All the plants found by this mean will be shown on a map on the right of the screen
if “map filter” is off (green).
If “map filter” is on (red), the plants that were
found only 1 or 2 times (considered as irrelevant) will not be shown on the map. - On the right of the button “map” you can enter a rate : this is a scale to fit the
map to your screen.
- Just below the left list, the weighting of positive (true) and negative (false) characters
can be changed (default is pos/neg 3/1).
What are true and false characters ? Yellow
is never found as flower colour for S. rauschii – so, yellow is a false character
or negative. And of course the colours usually found will be true characters or positive. - If you insert the “SulcoMania” CD or DVD in a drive before starting the program,
clicking on the name of a plant in a cladogram or in the map will display the photo
of that plant. A few field numbers used in this program are not mentioned in SulcoMania
: in this case, the photo will of course not appear.
