News 2020

November 15, 2020

In the last issue of Echinopseen [17 (2) 2020] the new book by Ladislav Horáček "Sulcorebutia 2020" was presented. I of course hastened to order it. It is now in my library!

X ERINACEA

So this table shows what I was able to get out as information in the "list of accepted names and synonyms" section.
BUT ... I must admit that it is not very clear. In principle, accepted names are in bold. But some are not. What does not facilitate the research.

I noticed a few errors in the names of the plants.
Some examples:
- Sulcorebutia hilmanii is named after the Swiss collector Ralf Hillmann we are told. So, in principle, “hilmanii” is wrong. But maybe this is the name that was registered?
- In the captions of the photos, you can read S. vertichillacantha, calecalensis, tarabucoensis viridis…

Also in the photos, I noticed the plant LH 1370 which is presented as S. crispata. This plant has yellow-orange flowers. So I ask myself questions ... ???
The biggest regret: the photos are not listed in alphabetical order!

At the end of the text, a new Weingartia is described: Weingartia skrovanii. Department of Cochabamba, between Mizque and Totora along the Julpe river at 2000m.

I do not regret my purchase because there are so many photos. Unfortunately, for someone like me who has never been in the field, it is difficult to get a good idea of   plants photographed in the wild, being used to plants grown in greenhouses. Also, sometimes with the photo being more focused on the flowers, it is hard to imagine the body of the plant.

As for the classification, I'll let you judge. I do not consider myself competent to make the slightest criticism. As for the new descriptions, having never seen these plants I can even less say.
